SMAC Board Meeting Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007
Very briefly, since almost the entire meeting - except for the usual banter and gossip and pizza - was devoted to final planning for the upcoming 10-miler next Sunday.
Minutes of the January meeting and the latest Treasurer’s report were handily and cursorily dealt with.
The important matter of how to handle insurance for the Tuesday XC races was postponed.
Membership - Ron distributed a very useful list of the membership to the board members and reported that membership stands at the impressive number of 379. (This counts family memberships not just as a single item for each such membership but as three, for instance, if the family is of that size.) Then we went to intensive discussion of the 10-miler. A few unusual matters such as someone who wants to walk slowly and either start very early or finish very late (after the end of our responsibility for his safety), someone who wants a free entry, and questions as to whether the Florida prison inmate who has often begun running laps around his prison yard at 1:00 P.M., just as the gun goes off in Amherst, had entered this year. (Apparently not. Perhaps he has been paroled? Pardoned? Executed? (Well, not that one, since they can’t even do that right in Florida, and Brother Jeb has suspended all such activity until they make their procedures more instantly lethal.))
At one point, a Bement security man came in and asked whoever it was who had parked in a space reserved for school vans, a car with a large number of bumper stickers (“Red Sox”, “Question Authority”, “Romer for Governor” (of Colorado, in 1984 I think), “No War in Iraq”, “Kerry/Edwards”, and “Bring Them Home NOW”) to please move his car. Done.
Respectfully, etc.,
Bob Romer, Sec.
